We are seeking a full-time, remote IT QA Lead. The IT QA Lead is responsible for leading the QA testing team to ensure the quality of the software system being developed or worked on. The lead will be responsible for attending all status meetings, understanding the requirements, and preparation of the test plan and strategies for projects being worked on. As the IT QA Lead, the candidate will also participate in testing as well as identifying and documenting defects as the work is going on. The lead will also work closely with the different product teams to ensure quality and timely delivery of products. This position will require improvements in process and coverage as well as coaching and monitoring the work of other QA Engineers to ensure a quality product. The lead will also work with the QA manager to come up with test automation scenarios for the project being worked on.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
QA Responsibilities
- To lead the QA testing team for the project and ensure the quality of work including effectively and efficiently serving as QA Team Lead, managing day-to-day activities, mentoring team members, and ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Define and oversee execution of test strategies including smoke tests, regression tests, and deployment signoff procedures.
- Accountable for effective delegation of testing tasks to QA engineers and ensure timely and thorough completion through regular follow-ups and status tracking.
- To be able to participate in test execution during the testing phase and log issues as needed
- To create and execute SQL statements to validate data within our various databases.
- Use defect tracking tools to log and clearly describe defects and conditions for reproducing them.
- Experience working on Agile teams.
- Tracking Quality Assurance metrics (e.g. defect density, open defect count); monitor and report on QA metrics (e.g., defect density, test coverage, pass/fail rates) to stakeholders and leadership.
- Participating in daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning, and sprint retrospectives
- Coordinating with other teams to ensure timely delivery of quality software products
- Accountable for effective delegation of testing tasks to QA engineers and ensure timely and thorough completion through regular follow-ups and status tracking.
- To update, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for software applications.
- To participate in source code control, bug tracking, and software release activities as required for automation.
- To execute automated functional and end-to-end tests for each software release using Azure DevOps.
- To troubleshoot issues with existing automation scripts and fix the automation scripts.
- To analyze the results of automated tests and document findings.
- To utilize tools within an automated test framework to assist in testing of the product.
Communication & QA Leadership
- To participate in regular status meetings with the project team.
- To lead QA triage activities to assess, prioritize, and assign defects and testing tasks across the QA team.
- To communicate relevant project information to QA team members, QA Manager, IT App Dev Manager/Director, and relevant stakeholders.
- To come up with a test plan and strategy based on the business requirements
- To translate business requirements into documented, repeatable test cases.
- To contribute to developing test cases for user training if required by project implementation.
- To proactively attempt to resolve issues and escalate when necessary.
Technical Understanding
- Experience with at least one of the following JavaScript-based testing platforms/frameworks: NodeJS, Cypress, Mocha/Chai, and Postman.
- Prefer experience in Web technologies HTML, JSON, XPath, CSS Selector.
- Prefer experience using different technology stacks to automate front-end, back-end, and web services (SOAP and REST).
- Prefer experience in source code management using git and Azure DevOps.
- Fast learner and able to handle multiple work streams as needed.
- Be motivated to meet commitments and deliver the highest value possible.
- Passion for quality, exceptional attention to detail, strong problem solver
- Working knowledge of SQL with the ability to write queries to retrieve data from SQL Server to validate test cases within an associated database.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education - College degree, preferably a B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience performing testing and certification of application and system functionality.
- Experience Four (4) or more years of work experience in application, functional, or system testing in the IT development/Quality Assurance field; OR any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Expert with all aspects of Microsoft technologies and adept with Microsoft Office products.
- QA Automation Experience One (1) or more years of work experience with UI and/or API testing automation and building test scripts.
- Required non-technical proficiencies and knowledge - Critical skills include excellent organization, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; the stamina to work in a fast-paced environment; the flexibility to meet changing needs and multiple tasks; Excellent follow-through skills with strong attention to detail; Adaptive and open to frequent changes in a work environment and prioritization; Efficiently able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Required technical proficiencies/knowledge - Familiar with using QA tools, writing test plans, test cases, test scripts, automated test scripts, and a good understanding of QA methodologies. Familiar with web testing technologies, PC hardware platforms, and MS Operating Systems. Related experience with client/server databases and reporting tools; enhanced knowledge of database structure and design; thorough understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and change management; expert with all aspects of Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products. (InfoPath, Word, Excel, Access, Project, XML, MS SQL Server, SharePoint, VSS, Microsoft Windows); ability to understand and assist with the conversion of business requirements into technical specifications and cross-reference them to test scenarios and test cases; enhanced knowledge of software quality assurance methodology and practice; a good understanding of systems and applications with the ability and desire to learn.
