The Senior Human Resources Consultant (SHRC) will contribute to advancing the University of Lethbridge as one of Canada’s top ranked universities and support a workplace that values excellence, wellbeing and inclusion. This role offers a hybrid work environment and a flexible work schedule which includes a compressed work week.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources Consulting and Wellness, the SHRC acts as a strategic partner providing senior Human Resources advice and guidance to senior administrators, managers, and employees within their assigned client portfolio across faculties and departments.
The SHRC handles the end-to-end service delivery of HR programs, policies, initiatives and services and is the main point of contact for their assigned portfolio. This includes advising on employee and labour relations, organizational change and restructuring, and classification and compensation matters.
Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Human Resources Department, the Provost’s Office, and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Office, the SHRC will develop and deliver HR services that are responsive, equitable, inclusive, meet operational requirements, and are aligned with strategic priorities, operational initiatives, and the academic mission of the university.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Develop and foster collaborative and interest-focused relationships with senior administrators, managers, staff, and union representatives.
2. Provide advice and guidance on the application and interpretation of collective agreements, employment manuals, employment policies and employment and labour legislation.
3. Support and coach managers on conduct and performance issues, including managing disciplinary processes and preparing performance improvement plans.
4. Support and coach managers in organizational change and restructuring, including developing change management plans, reviewing organizational design, and implementing plans.
5. Support clients with compensation-related matters including providing advice on position design, conducting position evaluation, providing training on writing position descriptions, making salary recommendations, and conducting compensation analyses.
6. Manage grievance and dispute resolution processes in collective agreements and employment manuals and work with internal and external legal counsel.
7. Lead projects aimed and improving human resources services and programs for the university community.
8. Potential to represent Human Resources on employer bargaining committee(s).
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
Requirements
1. University degree in Human Resources, Business or related field is required.
2. Minimum of 4 years related experience in a Human Resources advisory role is required.
3. Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation is considered an asset.
4. Experience advising on human resources matters in a large, unionized employer is required.
5. Experience in generalist HR areas such as Employee Relations, Labour Relations, Classification, Compensation, and Talent Management and Organizational Development is required.
6. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative and interest-focused relationships.
7. Ability to work independently in managing a large and varied portfolio with evolving priorities and competing deadlines.
8. Demonstrated commitment to efficient, quality, and responsive client-focused Human Resources services and programs.
9. Ability to work well as part of a team.
10. Ability to analyze, problem-solve, explore interests, consider alternative courses of actions, make recommendations, and implement decisions.
11. Flexible, adaptable, and resilient in ambiguous, challenging and complex situations.
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required for this position.
