Description
Strategic Data ConsultantDo you have the skills to shape and lead complex, multi-year data strategies for pension schemes? Are you comfortable advising clients, joining up multiple workstreams, and turning complex data challenges into clear, actionable plans?
We are looking for a driven individual to join our Data Solutions Team (DST) within Aon's UK Retirement business, focusing on Strategic Data Consulting. This role sits at the intersection of client advice, programme leadership, and delivery oversight, helping clients navigate increasingly complex data-driven change.
This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from any of our UK offices.
Aon is in the business of better decisions
At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.
As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.
What the day will look like
- Working with client teams and clients to design and agree strategic data plans, often spanning multiple years and aligned to wider scheme objectives (e.g. journey planning, risk settlement or buy‑out).
- Acting as the strategic lead across multiple data and benefit workstreams, ensuring activity is coherent, prioritised and aligned to the agreed plan.
- Advising clients on how to sequence projects, where assumptions can be made versus where detailed work is required, and how decisions in one area affect others.
- Providing regular client updates, presenting advice clearly and confidently, and supporting informed decision‑making.
- Working closely with DST delivery teams, external administrators and specialist groups to ensure effective hand‑offs and joined‑up delivery.
- Maintaining oversight of progress, risks, dependencies and resourcing, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Supporting the development of collateral, templates and standard approaches to strengthen the Strategic Data Consulting proposition.
- Contributing to business development activity, including identifying opportunities, supporting proposals and helping to articulate the value of strategic data advice.
How this opportunity is different
- This is a client‑facing strategic role, focused on advice, planning and leadership rather than hands‑on technical delivery.
- You will operate across the full breadth of data and benefit work, developing a holistic understanding of how projects interact and where efficiencies can be unlocked.
- The role plays a key part in accelerating revenue, improving pipeline visibility and enhancing the client experience, particularly for complex or fee‑sensitive clients.
- You will work with a wide range of colleagues across UK Retirement and specialist solutions, rapidly building a strong internal network.
- The role offers significant scope to shape a growing proposition, influence how Aon delivers strategic data advice, and build your own portfolio of client relationships.
- Experience advising clients on complex pension data and benefit challenges, ideally across multiple project types.
- Strong understanding of UK pension schemes and the role data plays in administration, risk settlement and end‑game planning.
- Ability to think strategically, joining up multiple workstreams and translating complexity into clear, practical advice.
- Proven stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging clients, consultants, administrators and specialist teams.
- Strong commercial awareness, including the ability to balance client objectives, delivery constraints and fee sensitivity.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present confidently and build trusted client relationships.
- Proactive and self‑motivated, with a desire to take ownership and help grow a market‑leading consulting proposition.
