Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists (CRES), located in Elmont, New York, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Equine Clinician to join our dynamic and growing team. Situated at the heart of New York’s vibrant racing and sport horse community, CRES offers a unique opportunity to practice cutting-edge veterinary medicine in a collaborative, high-performance environment.
As an Equine Clinician at CRES, you will play a pivotal role in delivering state-of-the-art diagnostic and emergency care to enhance equine health and performance. Our veterinarians integrate insights from the racetrack, show ring, hospital, and research to provide innovative, paradigm-shifting care. This role combines clinical excellence, client engagement, and teamwork, contributing directly to outstanding patient outcomes, hospital growth, and the advancement of equine medicine.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide expert care in equine medicine and emergency management, including colic, fractures, and wounds
Deliver high-quality diagnostics with emphasis on lameness, imaging, and soft tissue conditions
Contribute to training and mentorship of interns, students, and paraprofessional staff
Support outreach, continuing education programs, and hospital marketing initiatives
Represent CRES positively within the professional and broader equine community
Employees must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
DVM, VMD or equivalent degree from a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and at least 2 years of clinical experience with horses or equivalent. Board certification is not required for this position.
Experience in equine sports medicine, lameness, and rehabilitation.
Demonstrated excellence when communicating with clients, colleagues, house officers, students, and technicians.
Evidence of capacity or potential to develop referral caseload in a specialist equine hospital.
Well-developed and demonstrated evidence of collegiality.
Ability and willingness to participate in an emergency on call program covering up to 50% annually.
Important Details about the Position
This is an onsite position located in Elmont, NY.
This is a full-time two-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.

Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.

Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists (CRES) is a full-service hospital that provides surgical, medical, imaging, research and rehabilitation services. This DVM position will partner with the Clinic Director and the other full-time surgeon to provide full-time hospital coverage. The CRES facility located within walking distance of Belmont Park, is a satellite clinic of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. The hospital offers a full complement of advanced orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, regenerative therapies, an internal medicine and critical care service, and a broad array of diagnostic modalities including advanced imaging (standing MRI and nuclear scintigraphy, PET and CT scanners), arthroscopy, laboratory services, both routine and emergency surgical care, and access to the resources of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and the New York State Diagnostic Laboratory.
