Job Summary The Community Education Specialist provides health education, coordinates activities, and develops programs to promote health and wellness for patients, families, or community groups.
Essential Functions of the Role
• Networks regularly with team members and organizations. These may include educators, officials, agencies, or civic groups to provide health and wellness information.
• Plans, develops, and conducts educational programs for patients or the community. Evaluates and revises these programs to meet the needs of the public, patients, and medical staff.
• Utilizes program methodologies that encompass both traditional classroom and non-traditional informatics based educational processes.
• Works collaboratively with external educators to develop educational materials. Coordinates with Public Affairs for press releases, PSAs, and other public activities.
• Schedules and attends health and safety fairs and displays exhibits at professional conferences on a regular basis.
• Works with internal and external sources to produce and distribute quarterly public and professional education newsletters.
• Participates in committees and works with businesses to develop, implement and promote programs and provide information.
• Maintains documentation of all public and professional education efforts in compliance with department, the Organization and regulatory agencies' requirements.
• Markets community education programs internally and externally to ensure the public, patients and medical staff are aware of program resources.
• Presents self as in a manner that promotes department services and facilitates other departments using the education programs.
• Assists in community outreach programs, as required.
• Performs needs assessment throughout the region and across age, ethnic and economic groups.
Key Success Factors
• Knowledge specific to the area of department specialization including the social-ecological model of health behavior change and motivational interviewing.
• Knowledge of education theories, rules, procedures and practices of secondary, adult or continuing education programs and their accrediting processes.
• Knowledge of a variety of academic, occupational, vocational and career development resources.
• Ability to interpret organizational directives, instructions and guidance, and make outcomes and recommendations based on study.
• Ability to gather, develop and study a variety of data and to make recommendations based on testing.
• Skill in the delivery of formal and informal presentations and briefings.

• EDUCATION - Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
