Job Overview
The Senior Manager - Project Management (m/f/d) is responsible for leading and developing a team of Project Managers, ensuring excellence in project execution while building a high-performing and future-ready organization.
In this leadership role, you will combine operational excellence in project management with strong people leadership capabilities. You will drive the development of talent, strengthen leadership capabilities within your organization, and contribute to the continuous improvement activities while ensuring successful delivery of projects within your organization.
This position is based in our Bensheim site.
Job Requirements
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, develop, and inspire a team of Project Managers
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and employee engagement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching and development feedback, and create individual development plans.
- Drive talent management activities, including workforce planning, employee development, succession planning, and leadership capability building.
Project & Program Management Leadership
- Plan, budget, and secure resources for the project management organization within your area of responsibility.
- Ensure successful project execution with respect to scope, quality, timing, cost, and customer expectations.
- Hold Project Managers accountable for delivering business results and achieving strategic objectives.
- Monitor project portfolio performance and proactively address risks, dependencies, and escalation topics.
- Drive alignment between project execution priorities and broader business strategy.
- Promote and implement best practices, standards, methodologies, and governance processes across the organization.
Organizational Development & Change Leadership
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and organizational effectiveness.
- Influence strategic decision-making through data-driven insights and portfolio-level reporting.
- Foster collaboration with other functions inside the matrix organization
What your background should look like
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Typically 10+ years of professional experience in project and/or program management within a complex, matrix organization.
- Several years of proven people leadership experience, including direct management of Project Managers.
- Demonstrated success in talent development, employee coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Strong track record of building, developing, and leading high-performing teams.
- Formal Project or Program Management education; PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Experience managing complex project portfolios and driving organizational performance.
- Automotive industry experience is preferred.
- Strong business acumen and strategic mindset with the ability to translate business priorities into execution.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, influencing, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Experience leading organizational change and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical thinking and decision-making capabilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Business-fluent German and English language skills.
