Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Market & Portfolio Strategist to lead our investment strategy, portfolio construction, and ongoing positioning for high-net-worth clients. This individual will oversee our model portfolios, lead the Investment Committee, manage research and due diligence across traditional and alternative investments, and serve as the primary investment resource for our advisors.
The ideal candidate will combine sound investment judgment with exceptional communication and follow-through. They will manage and work closely with our Trader & Portfolio Analyst to ensure investment decisions are disciplined, well communicated, scalable, and aligned with our investment philosophy and the evolving needs of our clients.
Job Responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy & Management
- Lead the design, governance, and evolution of our model portfolios and investment strategies.
- Recommend strategic and tactical asset-allocation changes across equities, fixed income, cash, and alternative investments.
- Evaluate market conditions, economic data, valuations, trends, sentiment, and portfolio risks to translate research into timely, actionable decisions.
- Monitor portfolio performance, attribution, factor exposures, concentration, liquidity, and other risks, recommending adjustments when appropriate.
- Develop deep expertise in Ned Davis Research and incorporate relevant insights into our investment process.
Investment Leadership & Team Development
- Chair the Investment Committee and create a disciplined forum for research, debate, decision-making, documentation, and accountability.
- Partner with our leadership on investment direction, platform decisions, advisor needs, client experience, and growth opportunities.
- Translate approved investment strategies and model changes into clear implementation guidance.
- Oversee implementation, portfolio exposures, and exceptions to ensure investment decisions are executed accurately and consistently.
- Manage and develop the Trader & Portfolio Analyst, establishing clear priorities, expectations, and opportunities for professional growth.
Advisor & Client Support
- Serve as the primary investment resource for advisors, particularly on complex or high-impact portfolio matters.
- Develop portfolio and asset-allocation recommendations for concentrated stock, liquidity events, tax-sensitive transitions, non-model holdings, and other complex client situations.
- Provide investment analysis and recommendations for new business opportunities and significant or complex portfolio reviews.
- Participate in high-value client and prospect meetings to strengthen relationships and support our growth.
- Provide timely talking points and client communications during periods of volatility or significant market change.
- Lead monthly advisor investment updates, periodic client commentary, and quarterly market webinars.
- Deliver practical training and resources that help advisors communicate portfolio positioning and investment decisions with confidence.
Alternative Investments
- Lead the sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, approval, and ongoing monitoring of alternative investments.
- Assess private equity, private credit, hedge funds, interval funds, and other strategies based on portfolio role, return potential, liquidity, fees, tax considerations, and operational complexity.
- Maintain senior relationships with investment managers and research partners.
- Present alternative investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and equip advisors to explain each investment’s role, risks, and portfolio fit.
Requirements
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
- Series 65 and eligibility for registration as an Investment Adviser Representative.
- Significant portfolio management, investment strategy, or investment research experience, preferably within an RIA, wealth management group, OCIO, or financial client-focused environment.
- Demonstrated experience making or materially influencing asset allocation and portfolio positioning decisions across multiple asset classes.
- Strong command of portfolio construction, capital markets, manager research, performance attribution, and risk analysis.
- Experience evaluating alternative investments and communicating their portfolio role, risks, liquidity constraints, fees, and tax considerations.
- Strong written, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the presence to communicate credibly with advisors, executives, high-net-worth clients, and prospects.
- High-ownership, low-ego leader who follows through on commitments, takes initiative, and consistently puts the team and clients first.
Preferred
- CFA charter; CAIA, CIMA, or other relevant credentials preferred.
- Experience with Ned Davis Research or a demonstrated ability to become our subject-matter expert.
- A record of turning research into clear recommendations and influencing or making portfolio decisions.
- Experience mentoring investment professionals, improving processes, and holding work to high standards of accuracy and follow-through.
- Direct experience supporting high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth client portfolios.
